Preparation for Surgery

  • For your safety, please arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and care for you for at least 24 hours after surgery.

  • Do not eat or drink anything past midnight before your surgery unless otherwise directed by your anesthesia provider. Undigested food and liquids from eating and drinking can cause serious complications and could postpone your surgery.
  Checking In

Checking in

  • Bathe or shower prior to coming to the center. This can minimize the chance of infection. Remove all makeup, hairpieces, jewelry, and nail polish.

  • Wear loose comfortable clothing such as a sweat suit or an easy button shirt or blouse.

  • Leave all valuables at home.

  • Take all of your regular prescription cardiac, blood pressure, and GERD medications on the morning of surgery with a sip of water unless otherwise directed by your physician or anesthesia provider. Do not take insulin or oral diabetic medication, however bring them to the center when you come.

  • Bring a list of your prescription and non-prescription medications and herbal supplements with dosage and frequency. Your surgeon may request that you discontinue aspirin or aspirin products prior to your surgery.

  • Before surgery you will be asked to sign a consent form. If you are 18 or under you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with the right to sign legal documents for your care.

  • Please arrive promptly for your scheduled appointment. You will be notified the day before your surgery as to the time to arrive at the center. Bring all necessary paperwork and insurance cards.

  • Please remain flexible as surgery times may change even on the day of surgery. The center will call you as soon as possible with any necessary changes.

Care of Children

  • We at Pacific Surgery Center recognize that a parent’s presence can provide a great source of comfort. We encourage parents to stay with their child in the pre-operative area and in the recovery room immediately following surgery. If desired, we can arrange for a tour of the center for you and your child prior to the day of surgery. Please call for an appointment.

  • Bring your child in pajamas (preferably two pieced) or loose clothing.

  • Bring a favorite blanket or small toy and a bottle if appropriate.

  • Please leave other children at home so you may give your full attention to your child having surgery.

  • Your child MUST have an appropriate car seat for safety at discharge.

After Surgery

  • Surgery times vary, but most stays are from 2—4 hours.

  • You will receive discharge instructions from the recovery room nurse which will be reviewed with you and your escort before leaving Pacific Surgery Center

  • Remember that you cannot drive or be left alone after your surgery for 24 hours if you have received any sedation or pain medication unless otherwise instructed.

  • Return to your normal diet by starting with liquids and progressing to a normal diet as tolerated.

  • It is not unusual to feel drowsy and a little dizzy for several hours after anesthesia, so rest and allow healing to begin.

Financial Arrangements

  • Pacific Surgery Center will bill your insurance company for you. Be sure to bring the necessary papers and insurance cards with you on the day of surgery.

  • Pacific Surgery Center is a Medicare/Medicaid certified facility and we accept Medicare assignment. Medicare requires that the patient or secondary insurance is responsible for 20% of the allowable fee. The surgery center fee does not include charges from the surgeon, anesthesia provider, or any lab or pathology services.

  • We are required by contract to collect all insurance co-payments from our patients. These are due 30 days after insurance payments are received unless other arrangements have been made.

  • If your procedure is not covered by insurance, full payment is required at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made with the billing office. Personal checks and credit cards are accepted.
